Before departure:
- PLAN AHEAD. Research thoroughly on the employment, accommodation and living conditions of the partner economy.
- GET INSURED. Take out appropriate medical, hospitalisation and liability insurance for the whole trip to cover the possible related costs incurred abroad.
- USE "ROTI". Use the "Registration of Outbound Travel Information (ROTI) " service, which allows the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department to contact and assist you in an emergency outside Hong Kong. You will also receive updates on Outbound Travel Alert and related public information.
(Note: The ROTI accepts registration of itinerary information within three months prior to commencement of the itinerary, which covers a maximum duration of six months. Remember to register the remaining period of stay after the first six months of your journey!)
During the stay:
- ACT PROPERLY. Observe local laws.
- STAY CAUTIOUS. Make sure you know all your contract terms and conditions.
- DRIVE SAFELY. Observe the traffic laws and stay alert to the traffic conditions.
- STAY CONNECTED. Keep your family and friends informed of your itinerary.
- GET HELP. In case of accident or serious incident, approach the local government authorities or the relevant Chinese Embassy or Consulate for assistance, or call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868.
